Though Cal dropped a heart-breaking contest to USC at home last Saturday, several top prospects from the class of 2009 were on hand for the game, and didn't let a rainy evening damper their spirits.
Santa Margarita (Calif.) linebacker John Michael Davis, a four-star prospect in the class of 2009, was one of the unofficial visitors to Berkeley for the game.
"John Michael and I had a great time at the Cal game despite the weather and them losing," said his father, John.
Davis and his family headed up to Berkeley for the first time ever, and came away impressed with the campus and Memorial Stadium.
"It is an old stadium but very cool," said John. "They have great fans, especially the
student section."
Davis was hoping to meet Coach Jeff Tedford, who he'd been in contact with, but the chilly weather caused most in the stadium to leave not too long after the final whistle.
"We did not get to meet (Coach) Tedford because we were all soaked and freezing and when the game was over we left knowing it would have been
awhile until we could talk to him. We e-mailed him and we are going to take a trip up when the season is over," said John.
The season for the Eagles got an extension when they were granted the lone at-large berth in the Pac-5 Division of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs. They will visit Long Beach Poly, the top seeded team.
