Dawkins A Nole

The Palmetto State has been very good for the Florida State Seminoles, with several former draft picks hailing from the state of South Carolina. The Noles picked up another major player from one of the top programs in the state on Friday night.

"I committed to Florida State last night," said Everett Dawkins, who actually earned an offer from Florida State over the summer which seemed to kickstart his recruitment.

That early offer set into Dawkins' mindset who said the Seminoles led in nearly every interview after that offer.

"They were the first school on me, and I just decided after our game that I was ready to commit."

With Florida State defensive ends coach Jody Allen in attendance for the big Byrnes playoff matchup against Dorman, it was the Rebel defense that stood strong with several key stops at the end of the game.

With emotions running high, Dawkins spoke briefly with Coach Allen after the game.

"I called him after the game on his way back to Tallahassee and told him that I wanted to commit. He was wordless at first and then I could tell he was excited about everything."

Dawkins, obviously excited as well, added that he felt a strong bond with several other members of the Florida State class currently rated as one of the top ten in the country.

"Out of all the schoools I've been recruited by, they have a great class that's been a great group of guys. Together, we think we can bring a national championship back to Florida State."

Next weekend, Byrnes plays at home in the state semifinals for a spot to win five out of the last six state championships. Dawkins is also a selection for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

Scout.com will have exclusive senior game film from Dawkins performance in the first round of the state playoffs on Monday.
