"I
am just ready to win a state championship before I leave here," added Josh Chestang. "We won Region 7-4A and now we want to win state. We have Picayune
Friday and we play the winner of West Jones/Laurel. If we win that game, we are
headed to Jackson."
Chestang was unaware of his stats but believes
he has improved greatly from his junior campaign where he was named 1st Team All-State
in Class 5A.
"I am having a solid season. Teams were not running to
my side, but week by week, they have been running more and more my way. I am mostly
playing defensive end but sometimes they will move me over to outside linebacker
if they are trying to run away from me. I just feel like I am a better overall
player. Our whole defense is playing good. We are playing as a team."
What
would Josh grade himself if he were a teacher?
"I would say at best,
honestly, I have not made a whole lot of mistakes. Everybody is not perfect, but
I have not made many mistakes. I would probably give myself a B+ or A-. I am having
a solid year, nothing outstanding, but very solid."
Chestang's teammate,
Willie Packer, committed to the Rebels last Spring. It looks like Josh will be
joining him.
"I went up to Ole Miss on Saturday to see them play LSU.
I loved their campus. Their campus was pretty. I was into the game. I actually
committed after the game. I told them after the game I was ready to be a Rebel,
and they said that is what they wanted to hear. I enjoyed every moment of it."
Why
did Josh go ahead and make the commitment?"I watched the game, and I was
taking notes while I was reading their defense. LSU would spread them out, and
I could see myself helping that defense because of my speed. Do not get me wrong,
they are a real good defense, but their speed was not all the way their. LSU was
a step ahead. I can help them improve a whole lot."
