One player we saw this fall who left us scratching our heads because he didn’t have an offer was Kent (Wash.) Kentridge athlete Brandon Turner (6-3, 180). Turner got a lot of attention in the spring, and after making the move from receiver to quarterback to help the Chargers, showed his versatility offensively. But it was at safety that Turner really showed his talents, showing the knack to make a big hit and good decision making in the stout Kentridge defense. In mid-November, Turner finally received his first offer, from Idaho State, and as his film is being sent out, he’s hopeful more offers start rolling in. “Idaho State offered me first, and I’m going to take a visit there on January 12th,” said Turner. “I’m supposed to visit Idaho on December 17th.” Aside from those two Idaho schools, three more schools have been showing interest in Turner. “Nevada, Portland State and Navy have all been talking with me,” said Turner. “I’m really interested in Navy. I took an unofficial visit to Nevada. UNLV is also recruiting me, as a safety. They’re the only school who wants me as a safety.” Turner said he remains interested in the two in-state schools, though the contact with them has been minimal. “I’m still interested in Washington State and Washington,” said Turner. “But I haven’t really heard from them a whole lot.” The recruiting process has been at times, frustrating for Turner, but he’s taking it in stride. “I thought I’d get some offers in the offseason and when that didn’t happen, I thought they’d come during the season,” said Turner. “Then that didn’t really happen. But I’m just trying to be patient.” Turner said he’s hopeful he can take a few official visits, to have something to compare the different schools too. “I take all of my trips by January and then weigh all of my options,” said Turner. Where he’ll play on the field is as much a question as what school he’ll do it at. “I’m getting recruited as more of an athlete, but I’d probably rather play receiver. I could play corner too, being out there on an island. I’d prepare myself to play to the best of my ability. Academically, Turner is in fine shape, with a 3.1 GPA and a 1540 score on the SAT. |
