Tommy Pizzurro and his Iona Prep School teammates went up against a perennial powerhouse in St. Anthony’s in the semifinal round several weeks ago and came out on the losing side of things by a three-point margin, ending their season. The offensive lineman has been taking visits to programs showing him interest since that loss and spoke about them with us recently. | |||

Tommy Pizzurro, a 6-foot-2.5, 285-pound center from New Rochelle, N.Y., has been hearing lately from Alabama, Auburn, Central Florida, Virginia, Syracuse, Connecticut and Florida International and took some opportunities lately to experience home games at some of those programs. Pizzurro walked us through each visit he went on and is just wait to hear back from coaching staffs on film he sent to them recently. Syracuse - “I went to Syracuse for their game against South Florida and got to meet Coach (Jim) Salgado who was really nice. I went down before the game and watched the team warm up from the sidelines and then sat in special seating with two other recruits at the 50 yard line which was awesome. I liked their gym a lot and also thought it would be really cool to play in a dome.” Connecticut - “I was at the Syracuse game and have been there for camp before, so right off the bat with the Huskies you know they have brand new facilities as well as a stadium that are all really impressive. I met my recruiting coordinator Coach (Scott) Lakatos who was really nice and had a good time during my visit.” Auburn - “I was there for the Alabama game and it was absolutely intense down there. I’m not just talking about the game, I’m talking about the environment period. There were fans in the parking lot and on campus for hours before and after the game and it was a close one all the way through. I got to be on the sidelines before the game and met a few coaches and then went into the locker room once it was over.” FIU - “I actually spent two and a half hours with their line coach and athletic director being taken on a tour of the campus and then got to sit down with the head coach for about a half an hour. The line coach watched my film and told me that he wanted to offer me immediately, but as he wasn’t able to do so without an okay from the head coach he said he’d get back to me soon.” Alabama - “I didn’t visit Alabama, but I did get a call from Coach Major Applewhite recently and he asked me if I could send film to him right away for him to review personally, so obviously I got it down there. He seemed like a great guy and gave me his phone number to get in contact with him, so I hope to hear back about the film soon.” Pizzurro plans to compete in the Army All-American Combine in January. |
