Texas DB takes first visit, has first in-home

Victor Johnson

Victor Johnson is one of the top defensive back prospects in the state of Texas this year and the Waco High standout talked about his first official visit and his first in-home visit.

Victor Johnson took his first official visit of the year this past weekend.

"I went up to Oklahoma State for the weekend," Johnson said. "It was pretty good. They showed me around the facilities, I met the players, and just saw what it's like to be there."

Johnson's always been interested in the Cowboys and the visit did nothing but help.

"I liked them before and I like them now after the visit," he said. "They're right there."

Next up for Johnson is a visit to Miami, scheduled for next weekend.

"I don't have anything planned for this weekend and then I'm supposed to go to Miami next weekend. But I'm gonna try changing that for January because I want that to be my last visit."

Why does Johnson want to visit Miami last?

"That's where I've always wanted to go," he said. "I just think it'll be cool if I could go there after I've gone everywhere else."

Johnson, 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, had an in-home visit from Miami DB's coach Wesley McGriff recently.

"He came by a few days ago," he said. "It was me, him, and my mother. He was just explaining the school and telling me how well I'd fit into their defense. I'm liking Miami a lot -- that's where I'd like to go."

Johnson has said in previous interviews that he just needs to bring his SAT score up some in order to get into Miami. He plans on re-taking it in a few weeks. In the meantime, he has other options.

"Oklahoma's also there," he said. "I'm still talking to them and they're a good program."
