Victor Johnson, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound four-star safety from Waco, Texas, finished his senior season (9-2) with 65 tackles and one interception.
"I'm waiting until Signing Day," Johnson said. "I feel like I really need to talk things through. I want to go where I know I can play early and graduate. I'm looking for a place where I feel at home."
Johnson, ranked as the No. 15 safety in the country by Scout.com, has narrowed his choices to Miami, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas and Baylor, but says the 'Canes, Sooners and Cowboys lead solidly.
Growing up, Miami was his favorite team and they lead slightly now. He's scheduled to visit the 'Canes on Dec. 14, but may reschedule that to January. "I think I want to visit Miami last," he said. "I may change that and visit Oklahoma on Dec. 14 instead.
"I really like the tradition at Miami," he said. "I've just always liked them. I like the whole team and I think they are still rebuilding. I like coach Randy Shannon and I think they'll get better next year."
The only visit he has already taken was to Oklahoma State on Nov. 30. "It was a real good trip," he said. "I loved the facilities. They were great and they were still building some new stuff and adding more stuff. They are investing a lot in their football program."
Even if he doesn't visit the Sooners on Dec. 14, he says he definitely still plans to visit Oklahoma. "I like everything about them," he said. "They are always a top team and had a good season again. They really word hard and are well coached. They go to a top bowl game every year."
Johnson says that all three of his favorites have already visited him at home. "But so far it's just been the assistant coaches," he said. "Next week all the head coaches said they'd come for a visit."
He reports a 3.7 core GPA and a 720 SAT, which he is retaking on Jan. 26.
