Speller Nearing Decision
Nick Speller, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive tackle from Edmondson-Westside High School in Baltimore, Md., is currently holding offers from Delaware State, Syracuse and Hofstra and took an official visit to see the Orange this weekend. Speller came away so impressed with the program that he now has them in his top two and plans for a decision to be made sooner rather then later. "My visit to Syracuse was absolutely great," Speller stated. "I got to see the Carrier Dome for the first time and was just blown away by how big it was. I mean, we saw a basketball game in it and they were only using a corner section for the game. I can't even imagine what it's like during a football game when that place is full of cheering fans. It must be amazing." "I was also really impressed with the buildings and facilities, the weight room in particular," Speller added. "Everything was painted orange and blue and the walls were all glass, so you could see all of the surroundings. I met with the strength and conditioning coaches and got to check out some of the newer machines they had which were really cool. I think the thing that impressed me most though was that they have really hi-tech film rooms because I am a big film guy, so I would definitely wear those out." Speller was equally impressed with the coaching staff… "I talked to Head Coach Greg Robinson two or three times during the weekend and he just preached academics a lot," Speller explained. "He was a very laid back guy, someone who you could just sit back and talk to and the rest of the staff was also down to earth and very easy to connect with. You just got this feeling of sincerity from them that you don't feel everywhere." Speller will make an official visit to Hofstra on Thursday the 13th and plans to have his decision made within a week of that visit. At this point he states that Syracuse and Hofstra are his top choices.
