The only thing truly surprising about the announcement of Aliquippa (Pa.) wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin to the local favorite was that he did it this early, but after his official visit this weekend he chose to make it public.
At a 2:00 p.m. press conference at his Aliquippa home, Baldwin announced that he officially was committing to the University of Pittsburgh and joining several players who have committed to the Panthers in the past week joining Cameron Saddler, Greg Cross and Michael Shanahan.
“Pitt was in the lead from day one,” Baldwin said. “I just kept it to myself.”
Baldwin will follow in the footsteps of his father Jeffrey Baldwin who was also a member of the Pittsburgh Panthers. Baldwin follows a long line of former Quips to play at Pittsburgh such as Sean Gilbert and Darrelle Revis.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pound four-star and Scout.com National 100 will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas in January.
Scout.com and PantherDigest will have more on this breaking story in the next few hours.
