Kearney Pulls the Trigger

From first watching Nolan Kearney as a junior to seeing him progress as a senior, I have always felt that he was one of the better quarterbacks in the Northeast Region, however some inconsistencies at camps this summer hurt him a bit. This weekend the two-star quarterback from Downingtown, Pa., ended up giving a verbal commitment to William & Mary, one that could turn out to be a steal.

Nolan Kearney capped his high school career at Downingtown West High School by throwing for 21 touchdowns to only three interceptions. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound signal caller also ran for 555 yards and nine scores, showing that he has adequate mobility for a player of his size. After flirting with programs like Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Florida State and Toledo throughout the recruiting process, Kearney chose to go with a school he felt wanted at this weekend in William & Mary.

“I took my official visit this weekend and absolutely loved everything about it down there,” Kearney said. “I ate with Head Coach (Jimmye) Laycock and just thought he was a great guy who I could definitely see myself playing for. I also hung out with the players who were all awesome with me and frankly, there was a lot of talent down there as I met numerous guys who had Division I-A offers out of high school, but just chose to come to William & Mary instead.”

“The campus was beautiful and I just felt like I fit right in,” Kearney explained. “I had talked to Penn State a while back and they and other schools had been asking me to wait to see what Terrelle Pryor does before committing anywhere as I would have a chance with their programs, but I don’t want to be an after thought as a recruit. I want to be somewhere that wants me.”

Kearney is already on the recruiting trail for William & Mary and has his first target in mind, a wide receiver who all of the quarterbacks we spoke with from the Scout.com Combines were very impressed with…

“My first job is to get Nihja White down here. He’s coming on an official visit this upcoming weekend and I’m going to do my best to bring him in with me because he’s an awesome player.”

Kearney threw for 44 touchdowns as the quarterback of Downingtown West High School during his career and led them to three straight playoff berths.
