At one point, Herman Davidson, the fast-rising safety from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, had only one offer, from San Diego State, and it didn't come until mid-October.
But a continued run of excellent play, culminating with the CIF-SS Pac-5 Division title last weekend, has helped Davidson's stock rise high.
Schools like Michigan, Miami, North Carolina and Ole Miss had joined San Diego State in offering Davidson, but the Southern California native was lacking an offer from the Pac-10, a conference he grew up watching.
That changed on Wednesday, though.
"I got an offer from Arizona State," said Davidson. "I finally got a Pac-10 school."
Davidson told us last week that Arizona State had been picking up their interest, and they confirmed it with an offer.
"They have a home visit today," said Davidson. "Coach (Matt) Lubick is stopping by."
Davidson and his Jackrabbit teammates won the schools 18th CIF-SS title last weekend, in a 13-3 win over Encino Crespi. Davidson finished the season with 71 tackles and six interceptions and two fumble recoveries. In fact, Davidson saved the Poly season with a fumble recovery at the goalline in the final seconds of their 2-0 win over Orange Lutheran in the semifinals.
