Q & A with junior center Conner Wilson from Phoenix (AZ) Desert Vista HS

A mainstay over the past two years on the Desert Vista offensive line has been center Connor Wilson. Helping the Thunder to the 5A1 state title game this year, Wilson will be a three-year starter when he takes the field next season.

Here is a quick Q & A with Wilson to help introduce him:

Scout.com: What is your official height and weight?
Connor Wilson: “6-0 245 lbs.”

What is your greatest football memory?
“Double pancaking two players against Hamilton.”

What are your goals for the upcoming season?
“Get faster and stronger and make 1st Team All State Center.”

How are you preparing for the upcoming season? Will you attend any camps this summer?
“Attending speed training and weight lifting and will attend a few mini-camps.”

What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?
“I have worked hard on holding blocks. I am improving my speed and strength.”

Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?
Devon Kennard, Casey Bolena and Cole Pembroke.”

Name one teammate you really respect and why?
Devon Kennard. He works hard and is a leader.”

What are your goals regarding playing football in college?
“I would like to play for a Division 1 college.”

Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet?
“I have not been contacted and have only received a few letters.”

Would you consider staying in state to play in college?
“Yes. Definitely for ASU.”

What would your top 5 college choices be?
“ASU, Notre Dame, Texas, Boise State and Oregon.”

Who is the best player you ever played against? Why?
Devon Kennard. He has quick speed and fast reactions.”

Name one opponent who you really respect and why?
Chandler High School. They were class players.”

What other sports do you play?
“Wrestling and Lacrosse.”

What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?
“Bench-315, Squat-620, Power Clean-285 and 40 yard-5.0.”

How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?
“Powerful with good technique.”

What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
“Strength is my technique and strength. Weakness is my height.”

Who is your favorite athlete and why?
“Derek Kennard Sr. I know him and he is intense.”

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
“Work hard and things will come your way.”

Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?
“Win a 5A-1 State Championship.”

What position do you think you will play in college?
“Center.”

What can a college program expect from you as a player?
“Hard work and dedication. I am coachable. I will not fail.”

What is your GPA and SAT/ACT score?
“GPA-3.75, SAT- Have not taken it yet.”

What will the main factors be when you choose a school?
“Type of football program and education I will get.”
