The last two times Newhall (Calif.) Hart had a quarterback who had to play in the secondary until his senior year, when the position became open, they produced Kyle Boller and Matt Moore. For those of you watching the NFL, you may have noticed that both Boller and Moore started on Sunday for the Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers, respectively.
Senior quarterback B.R. Holbrook (6-3, 180) is yet another Indian player who had to patiently wait his turn to take over the Hart passing game, but his senior year was a memorable one, leading Hart to the Foothill League title and the finals of the CIF-SS Northern Division.
Holbrook is making the most of his senior year, and New Mexico became the first school to come through with an offer. In fact, the Lobos diligence in recruiting Holbrook could net them the skilled passer.
“New Mexico offered and I think I’m going to commit soon,” said Holbrook. “They offered me as a quarterback.”
Holbrook took an official visit to Albuquerque last weekend, and he enjoyed his time visiting New Mexico.
“My gut is telling me to do it,” said Holbrook. “Coach (Rocky) Long is a cool guy and he seems like he would be awesome to play for.”
Holbrook was hosted by freshman receiver Mike Scarlet.
“We got along really well and he is pretty tight,” said Holbrook.
Holbrook is well aware of the patience that Boller and Moore showed, and wouldn’t mind following the same path.
“Hopefully, I can keep it going,” said Holbrook.
During the 2007 season, Holbrook threw for 2,656 yards and 25 touchdown passes to only six interceptions. He rushed for 739 yards and eight touchdowns during a 12-1-1 season for the Indians.
