Southern Miss has picked up a commitment from one of the top receivers in the
state of Florida this year. Chris Rhoden made defensive backs look
foolish at several camps in their one on ones. He runs precise routes, has a big
frame, sticky hands, and adequate speed. He reminds me of another Florida
receiver that set the SEC on fire in the 90's, Chris Doering.
Rhoden verbally committed to Southern Miss on Saturday. He told Coach
Bower after their Homecoming game against Cincinnati. Coach Bower along
with several staff members and family were on hand when Chris announced his
decision, and according to Chris' father Steve Rhoden, they were thrilled.
"My dad and I have visited 23 colleges over the past several months
and I've seen and learned quite a bit," said Chris Rhoden. "I believe
I am as well prepared to make a decision as any young person could be. I
cannot think of a place I'd rather be than right here, it just feels right. Most
important of all, I want to go where I'm wanted and I was their top receiver
recruit.
I was offered in August, they were the first and that impressed me. It
didn't make any sense to wait around when I knew I liked the school, the
town, the coaches and the facilities. I visited many great schools and met
many wonderful people during this process and I'll have those memories
always. Now this is behind me I can focus on the rest of the season.
Hopefully we can win our district again and get in the play-offs . I'm
having a great senior year and life is good!!"
Congratulations to both Southern Miss and Chris Rhoden; he will be a player
to watch in the coming years for the Golden Eagles.
