Perris (Calif.) Citrus Hill linebacker Jamie Irving is beginning to see his recruiting heat up, but as its getting going, Irving is ready to wind things down.
"I'm narrowing down recruiting to just three schools," said Irving. "Nevada, New Mexico and UTEP."
UTEP is a newer school getting involved, and is beginning to gain some traction.
"UTEP came on late but I think they are a program on the rise," said Irving. "I rescheduled the Utah State trip to a UTEP trip. I also hold an offer from them."
Nevada and New Mexico had been on Irving for a while, the first two schools to offer him, and the two opponents in the New Mexico Bowl are in the driver's seat.
"Nevada's linebacker coach has been showing a lot of interest in me. He understands the game a lot and may be able to help me reach my linebacking potential," said Irving.
But the victorious Lobos could hold the edge.
"New Mexico may be leading the way right this second though," said Irving. "I feel their LOBO position can help me display my talent better than linebacker. If I was to play linebacker I would be very undersized. The LOBO's they have now are my exact size and speed and I feel I can come in and eventually earn a spot there. I've been hearing different people thinking about what linebacker to put me at or whether I should switch to safety. I feel that position is a combination of both of them and perfect for me."
Irving kept a close watch on the game on Saturday, and the Lobos defense stood out to him.
"I watched the scheme they ran with Ian Clark and Clint McPeek in the New Mexico Bowl and came away impressed with the calls," said Irving.
Irving's visits will all take place in January.
"I'll be visiting New Mexico first on the 11th, then Nevada the 18th and UTEP the 25th," said Irving.
Irving had nearly 100 tackles as a senior, helping lead Citrus Hill to an unbeaten season and the CIF-SS Divisional title.
