Las Vegas (Nev.) linebacker Colin Shumate (6-2, 221) has a solid group of four schools he’s focusing on, and he took a visit to one of them earlier this month.
“I just visited San Diego State,” said Shumate. “They’ve offered me and are one of my top schools.”
Joining the Aztecs are Nebraska, Arizona State and Stanford, though Shumate is waiting for offers from the last three.
As for his visit to San Diego State, Shumate was pleased with the experience.
“It was a cool trip,” said Shumate. “It is a great school on the rise. They have really good coaches and it’s an awesome city. Vince Camarda was my host and he was really cool.”
Shumate had visited Boise State in October, but the Bronco staff saw him at a different position than he wanted to play.
“They were looking at me as a fullback and I’m not interested in that,” said Shumate. “So I’m focused on those four.”
Shumate said he wasn’t in any rush to make a decision.
“I don’t have a timetable,” said Shumate. “I’m waiting so I can weight out all of my options.”
During his senior season, Shumate had over 100 tackles. Academically, Shumate has a 3.8 core GPA, a 25 ACT and a 1700 SAT score.
