McKenzie committed to Arizona State over the spring according to Larry Drake of the CactusRanch.com and reaffirmed his commitment over the weekend.
"A-State is the best place for me," McKenzie told Drake. "It's close to home so I can work on the transition from Junior College to college after our season is over and I really like the idea of playing for Coach (Ron) English (ASU DB coach)."
Over the summer during workouts at Glendale, McKenzie clocked an incredible 4.15 in the 40 while a couple of coaches from the ASU staff looked on amazed. A scholarship offer soon went out and McKenzie jumped on it.
As a freshman at Glendale, McKenzie played corner but was moved to safety this year. He'll enroll at ASU in the fall with three years to play two. Although he won't be able to participate in spring workouts, he will be able attend practices and learn the system which was a major reason for his decision to attend ASU.
Along with the Sun Devils, Nebraska, Arizona and Washington also offered scholarships.
"I wish I could play for them right now because I think I could help them," McKenzie said. "They're a little short at my position but I'll just have to wait my turn."
