The teams were randomly divided with a mixture of players from each region on the two rosters. Team Red and Team Silver will arrive in the land of Mickey Mouse Sunday afternoon ready to have fun and cap a successful senior season with this inaugural all-star game.
The defensive front is led by Omar Hunter, Scout.com five-star defensive tackle from Buford, (Ga.). The Notre Dame commitment has incredible speed and quickness for his size. Also at defensive tackle is Jarvis Humphrey, four-star from Cedar Hill, Texas. Humphrey possesses a lot of power and one of his strengths the Texas Longhorns are looking forward to next season. Jewhan Edwards, from Philadelphia-Roman Catholic, (Pa.), will play on the line as well.
Team Red Preview (Defense):
The outside rushers include Tyler Westphal, four-star tight end from Menasha, (Wis.), Jerrell Harris, four-star weakside linebacker from Gadsden, (Ala.), City, and Courtney Upshaw, four-star defensive end from Eufaula, (Ala.).
Westphal is the biggest of the three at 6-foot-7, 235-pounds. He will begin his career at defensive end for Wisconsin. Harris is listed as a linebacker, but has mainly played end throughout his high school career. Harris runs like a deer and is very physical. Upshaw has also played defensive end, but projects as linebacker in Tuscaloosa. Upshaw was named the AHSAA Class 5A Lineman of the Year.
The linebacker group is solid from the inside to the outside. The inside linebackers are Jon Major (Colorado), four-star from Parker-Ponderosa, (Colo.), and Uona Kaveinga (UCLA), four-star from Lawndale-Leuzinger, (Calif.).
The nation’s top weakside linebacker Ramon Buchanan, four-star from Melbourne-Palm Bay, (Fla.), will play on the outside. Sean Spence, four-star from Miami-Northwestern, (Fla.), is the other outside linebacker. Buchanan and Spence are soft-verbal commitments to the Miami Hurricianes.
The defensive secondary for Team Red possesses several of the nation’s top two-way performers. They are lead by Will Hill, five-star safety from Jersey City-St. Peters Prep, (N.J.). Hill is the top rated safety in the country and committed to the Florida Gators. The other safeties include Jamoris Slaughter (Notre Dame), four-star from Tucker, (Ga.), and E.J. Woods (soft verbal/UCLA), four-star from Encino-Crespi Carmelite, (Calif.).
The best overall athletes on the team are the cornerbacks. Burton Scott, National 100 receiver from Prichard-Vigor, (Ala.), recorded over 2,300 yards on offense and was a shut down corner on defense for his senior season. The Alabama commitment will begin his career in Tuscaloosa at receiver.
Joe Adams (USC), four-star receiver from North Little Rock-Central Arkansas Christian, (Ark.), adds size to the cornerback position. His 39-inch vertical leap will help going up against the taller Team Silver receivers. Charles Whitlock, four-star cornerback from Chester, (S.C), is one of the quickest shut down defensive backs in the country. He is an incredible athlete and is expected to begin his career as a wide receiver at South Carolina.
Janoris Jenkins, four-star cornerback from Pahokee, (Fla.), is also on the roster and a soft-verbal to Florida. Scout.com looks forward to watching Neiko Lipscomb, three-star cornerback from Tucker, (Ga.).
Team Red features two kickers. They are Caleb Sturgis (Florida), three-star kicker from St. Augustine, (Fla.), and Carson Wiggs (Purdue) from Grand Prairie-South, Texas.
Sturgis averaged 70-plus yards on kick-off distance, and Wiggs has averaged 47 yards punting during his high school career.
Former NFL coach Ron Meyer will serve as the head coach of Team Red. Tom Rossley will serve as offensive coordinator, and the defensive coordinator is Rex Norris.
The coaching staff will include nine assistant coaches from high schools from across the country: John McKissick, Summerville (S.C.); Billy Rolle, Miami- Northwestern; Tim Murphy, Clovis-East (Calif.); Tim Carter, Auburn, (Ala.); Ron Duncan, Bamberg-Ehrhardt (S.C.); Jim Kunau, Orange-Lutheran (Calif.); Ray Reitz, Jeannette (Pa.); Tim Harris, Miami- Booker T.
