As our coverage of the US Army Bowl continues we look at how the West squad did on Wednesday and who were the big contributors. This article is a position by position break down on the players that stood out on the day. | |||

USAAB: West Scrimmage Report Quarterbacks: Once again Crist looked like the best overall quarterback on the day. He had some nice passes and placed some deep balls in the right spot. He is consistent and most of all he is consistently good. Luck seems to be a momentum quarterback this week, once he gets rolling he is deadly. That is what happened in the passing skills competition. Gabbert is still very inconsistent but shows he has speed to run. Running Backs: McGuffie shined through on the day, he scatterbug moves and ability to make plays out of nothing makes him a commodity on any squad. However he was able to pop some runs to the outside and take two runs to the house. He also shined in the skills competitions participating in the final sled and skills competition. Darrell Scott looked the next best among the backs with some good runs inside, he is a real player. Johnson also looked good with a pair of nice runs and he was able to show off his speed over and over again on the day. Wide Receivers: Jermaine Kearse seems to be developing into a favorite of the quarterbacks, he had several catches on the day and the quarterbacks keep looking his way. Dan Buckner made a nice catch in the scrimmage, of course that is what he always does. D.J. Shoemate also chimed in with a nice play. Offensive Line- once again some familiar names pop up in Matt Kalil, Stephen Good, Trevor Robinson all showing well on the day. This group has gotten the best of the defensive line for the majority of the snaps and that tradition continued on Tuesday. Defensive Line: Lawrence Guy was able to disrupt the backfield several times as was Baker Steinkuhler. Others showing well on the day were RJ Washington and Soloman Koehler. For the most part the defensive line has lost the battle against the OL’s but Steinkuhler and Guy have been consistently good. Linebackers: Kyle Prater just did not want to be left out the praise parade that we heaped on Michael Mauti and Lynn Katoa. Prater had his best day yet, he made plays against the run and pass and showed a real spark on the field. With linebackers like Mauti and Katoa present it is tough to get any tackles but Prater had more than his fair share. Dravanti Johnson had a better day today with some nice plays, hard to get too many tackles when you have others just having great week’s but Johnson showed he has some serious skills also. Katoa was spectacular at times and just darn good at others, though he did not dominate as much as he did on Tuesday it was not for the lack of making plays but rather how good Mauti played. Speaking of Michael, wow, what a day he had, he tore up the field and kept getting Sam McGuffie for losses. He terrorized others on the offense also but his play was very impressive on the day. Defensive backs: An up and down day for several backs. Aaron Williams got burned early on a touchdown pass but made several plays later that only he could make. Gerell Robinson had another good day but not quite as big as the day before. Nolan Brewster stood out on this day, he was solid on Tuesday but was around the ball more and disrupted more plays on the day. Robert Golden was solid again with some big plays, he got burned on one play on the day but was able to knock down a pair of passes. |
