Silver Wins Inaugural Under-Armour Game

Big time players make big time plays and that was the case in the Under Armour All-American Game today. Several top rated players made key and exciting plays and in the end, it was two ACC commits who walked away with MVP honors. The game itself ended in a narrow 17-14 victory.

Lake Buena Vista, FL – What a way to start for the Under Armour All-American Game. The inaugural game in this soon to be annual tradition went right down to the wire with Team Click-Clack (White) edging Team Undeniable (Red) 17-14.

Undeniable got on the board first when QB Mike Glennon (NC State) punched it in from 1-yard out capping a 12 play, 80 yard drive which included three passes from Glennon to Julio Jones. Glennon would finish the game 5 of 12 for 88 yards and the rushing score and be named Red MVP.

“I think we accomplished a lot,” Glennon said afterwards, “ I’d rather have the win but I think I played well, there is always room for improvement though.”

After Glennon’s score, Click-Click answered back with a Jeff Locke (UCLA) field goal and then a 32 yard touchdown pass from Nick Crissman (UCLA) to a leaping Derrick Grant (Texas) who made an outstanding grab to put his team up 10-7.

It would remain that way until the third quarter when Charles Whitlock (South Carolina) picked off a Kyle Parker (Clemson) pass and raced 38 yards for the touchdown. Parker on the play, appeared to have miscommunication with his receiver, Antoine Hicks (Texas).

With Undeniable up 14-10, Click-Clack mounted a drive. They went 65 yards in just under five minutes and culminated with Parker making up for his prior interception with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jamie Harper with 3:21 to go in the game.

Undeniable had one last chance. Glennon moved the team over midfield, but on 4th and 1, facing big pressure from DaQuan Bowers (Clemson), he threw one downfield and the pass was broken up by Brandon Harris (Miami).

Bowers, who finished with one sack and multiple quarterback pressures, was named MVP of Click-Clack and was featured in one of the best matchups of the day with Undeniable OT Tyler Love (Alabama).

“Tyler’s a great player,” Bowers said, “I just tried to use my speed to get around him,” as for his consistent pressure on the last drive, he said, “we knew they wanted to go deep, so we wanted to get pressure on the quarterback and that’s what I did.”

OTHER NOTABLE STATS: Julio Jones finished with six catches for 97 yards. A.J. Green (Georgia) had two catches for 36 yards, including one outstanding leaping grab early in the game. Parker finished 9-13, 114 yards and a TD, E.J. Manuel (Florida State) was 5-7 for 75 yards. Andre DeAngelo Ellington (Clemson) had 33 rushing yards and 43 receiving yards. Ramon Buchanan (Miami) and Janoris Jenkins (Florida) lead the Red with five tackles apiece.
