"Well, I committed, if that helps any,"
added a chuckling and H. R. Greer.
Why Ole Miss?
"They told
me they were in on some other fullbacks, and they wanted me to be their guys,
but if I was going to take some other visits then they were going to have to start
offering the other FB's on their board. But that really was not the big thing,
I just want to play for Coach Nutt. His staff is first class, and they are going
to turn it around and win big at Ole Miss. I really believe they believe in me
too. I do not know. I just absolutely loved it at Ole Miss. This is a dream come
true for me."
Where was H.R. scheduled to visit next and will he still
take those visits?
"I was suppose to go to Memphis (1/18) next
weekend and MSU (1/25) the weekend after, but I am not going anymore."
What
did Coach Nutt say when Greer informed him that he was going to be a Rebel?
"When
I told Coach Nutt that I committed, he jumped right out of his seat and gave me
and my mom a big ole hug. That felt great."
When did H.R. realize
that Ole Miss was the place for him?
"I was talking with Coach
Derrick Nix Saturday, and we were watching some film. He was telling me that I
had a great chance to back up Jason Cook next year and take over my sophomore
year. What else could I ask for? Learn the tricks of the trade from a great fullback
like Jason my freshman year and start for the next three years. That was it for
me."
The coaching staff at Ole Miss was the clincher.
"The
thing that stood out the most for me about Ole Miss was their coaches. The fact
they are going to take care of you and treat you like family. That is all any
football player wants. You want to be in a family environment."
There
were also a couple more selling points.
"I did not know that Ole Miss
was one of the smaller public universities. I come from a real small school where
everybody knows everybody, and that is what you get at Ole Miss. It is real compact,
the campus, and you get to really know your teachers when you are at a smaller
school. It just fits my style. And another thing that really impressed me about
Ole Miss is the type of players they are recruiting. He is going to recruit big
time players with big time character. Like Devin Thomas, man, you could not get
a better person than Devin. Those are the type of people they are going to bring
in, high quality players and high character people. He really stressed that with
us, and that hit home with me."
