Joliet, Illinois defensive back Ross Crampton his filled in nicely for All-American running back J.R. Zwierzinski (Penn State) and he's also solid on the defensive side of the ball.

A prospect that’s emerging on the recruiting scene is 6-foot-2, 198-pound, safety, running back, Ross Crampton.

Crampton missed his junior year because of a knee injury but hasn’t missed a beat in 2002.

Crampton is a defensive back that’s not afraid to stick his hat on someone and make a big hit. He finds his way to the ball and arrives in a nasty mood.

He’s also stepped into the offensive backfield and has become the leading rusher on a team that lost All-American J.R. Zwierzinski to Penn State.

In a little more than three games, Crampton has 800 total yards and he has scored 12 touchdowns.

“I still don’t have an offer but several schools have been calling.” Crampton said.

Florida, Northwestern, UCLA, Air Force, Central Michigan and Northern Illinois have all been calling. Northwestern just started to call recently. I really like coach (Pat) Fitz(gerald).

“Florida is still my favorite and Northwestern is #2 right now. Wisconsin is also up there and I like Arizona State and UCLA.”
