Football Recruiting News: * Elite 11 quarterback Chris Leak had his biggest game of the year last Friday, passing for 585 yards and eight touchdowns in Charlotte (N.C.) Independence's 71-6 win over North Mecklenburg. Leak has already visited Florida officially and is in the process of setting up trips to Texas and Notre Dame. Leak's last two trips will likely go to Florida State and USC, and Tennessee, where his brother C.J. plays, is still under strong consideration as well.* 6-5, 300 pound offensive lineman Akim Millington of Wheaton (Ill.) North, has set all five of his official visits and says he doesn't have a leader. "I have (official) visits set with Oklahoma for Nov. 2nd, Iowa for Nov. 9th, Boston College for Nov. 16th, Miami for Dec 6th and Wisconsin for Dec 13th," Millington told Student Sports. * 6-0, 185 pound athlete Tommy Zbikowski , who both passed and rushed for over 1,000 yards as a junior, has setup four of his five official visits, according to his father Eddie. "Tom has set official visits with Notre Dame on Dec. 6th, Iowa Dec. 13th, Nebraska on Dec. 20th and Arizona State on Jan 18th," he told Student Sports. Mr. Zbikowski added that the fifth visit will be between Boston College, Virginia and Tennessee, who just recently offered Zbikowski. All schools except Nebraska (quarterback), are recruiting Zbikowski as a defensive back.* Tallahassee (Fla.) Rickards running back Kolby Smith has two solid leaders in Florida and Auburn, with an offer from the Tigers but not yet from the Gators. The 5-11, 190 pounder has ran for 555 yards and seven touchdowns this year despite missing two games due to injury. He also has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Kentucky and a few others.* 5-8, 175 pound running back Marcus Woods has a solid top three after returning home from his official visit to Nebraska on the weekend of October 12th. "My top three are Nebraska, Michigan State and Bowling Green," said Woods. "They're all even." Woods, who clocked a 4.43 in the 40 at the Nike Camp in Michigan, has a second visit scheduled for Michigan State on Dec. 13th. He's rushed for 1,110 yards and 22 touchdowns in eight games so far this fall for Farmington Hills (Mich.) Harrison.* Eugene (Ore.) Sheldon quarterback Alex Brink continues to put up huge numbers, as the 6-2, 180 pounder has thrown for2,170 yards and 21 touchdowns in helping Sheldon to a 7-0 start. Brink currently has offers from Idaho and Portland State and is also hearing quite a bit from Boise State.Football Commitments:* West Virginia has a verbal from 6-1, 200 pound wide receiver/defensive back Eric Wicks of Pittsburgh (Pa.) Perry. Wicks had over 600 yards receiving and nine touchdown catches as a junior and joins fellow Perry teammate Vaughn Rivers as a Mountaineer commitment.* SMU has received a commitment from 6-4, 280 pound offensive lineman Caleb Peveto of Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus, over an offer from Vanderbilt.* 5-11, 185 pound defensive back Grant Jones of Pawnee (Okla.), has committed to Oklahoma State.Basketball Commitments:* 6-7, 210 pound small forward Trevor Ariza of Los Angeles (Calif.) Westchester, has committed to the UCLA Bruins over Florida, Georgia, Indiana and UNLV. Ariza, the No. 13 player in the Student Sports Hot 100, averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior. * Forward Mike Pilgrim of Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy, has committed to Cincinnati over Seton Hall. The 6-7, 210 pounder averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds last season at Cincinnati (Ohio) Purcell Marian.* Forward Sheray Thomas of Upper Marlboro (Md.) Riverdale Baptist, has committed to Kentucky over Virginia. Thomas was also considering Connecticut, Syracuse, West Virginia, Dayton and Richmond. The 6-8, 220 pound native of Montreal averaged 19.6 points and 11 rebounds last season. * Outstanding forward Ross Neltner of Fort Thomas (Ky.) Highlands, is headed to LSU over Virginia, Utah, Northwestern, West Virginia and Tulane. The 6-8, 225 pounder averaged 17.5 points and 10 rebounds as a junior.* 6-8, 265 pound center/forward Rashawn Bryant of Rome (Ga.) Coosa, who averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior, has committed to Colorado. * Indianapolis (Ind.) Brebeuf Jesuit senior Sonny Troutman has committed to Ohio University. The 6-5 Troutman averaged 17.9 points and 7.4 rebounds as a junior.Girls Basketball Commitment:* Jordan (Minn.) center Mandy Holzer has committed to Akron. Holzer averaged 16.4 points and 11.4 rebounds last season.Baseball Commitment:* Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence Central senior Rashard Graves has accepted a baseball scholarship to Indiana. Graves, a center fielder, hit .413 with 36 RBIs in leading the Bears to the Class 4A state finals last spring.
