Gillespie Updates Recruitment
Tony Gillespie, a 6-foot-0, 300-pound defensive tackle from Jenks High in Okla., was a terror in the playoffs. Racking up over 50 tackles to help lead the Trojans to a 6A State Championship victory over their rivals the Union Redskins. Last time Scout.com caught up with the three-star prospect it looked likely that he would land at Arkansas or Kansas State, but things have changed a lot over the last couple of weeks. Last weekend he took his first official visit to TCU and the Horned Frog coaching staff did a great job of selling their program. "It was a great visit," Gillespie informed. The highlights were the way I got along with the coaching staff and the players. I really got along well with the head coach." "TCU moved in a big position to land my signature. The facilities are real nice and they are building a multi-million dollar facility for their athletes. Overall it was top-notch." Gillespie was scheduled to take an official visit to Kansas State this weekend, but it does not look like that is definitely going to happen. "I was supposed to take a visit to KS, but I have not heard form their coaches this week yet about it," Gillespie explained. "I do know that I am going to Tennessee on February second." Tennessee is a school that Gillespie has always had an interest in, but the fact he has an official scheduled is big news. "I know that the Tennessee visit it is officially set up on the second, the last weekend right before signing day," Gillespie said. "The Tennessee coach is real close with coach Trimble (Jenks Head Coach) and we have a pretty good relationship as well." Gillespie's grades have always been called in to question, and although he did not want to go in to details he admits that the grade situation is not the biggest thing on his plate at his point in time. "Right now my grades are doing good," Gillespie stated. "I have to get an ACT score, but after I do that I am qualified. I have all the way to July to get the score, but I know I will get it taken before then. Right now I am more worried about who I am going to sign with." Gillespie plans a signing day announcement during a press conference that will be held at his school.
