Jenkins Holding Many Early Offers
With a 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame and legitimate 4.45 speed in the 40-yard dash it's easy to see why so many programs have already begun to offer Our Lady of Good Counsel strong side linebacker Jelani Jenkins early scholarships. Jenkins is currently in the process of waiting for all of his verbal offers to come in writing, but did fill us in on what he knows is or has come in. "Right now I have written offers from Virginia, Rutgers, Maryland, Stanford, Tennessee, Boston College and Syracuse," Jenkins said. "I talked to my coach and he says I have verbal offers from Penn State, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, North Carolina and North Carolina State as well. I'm not sure when they are coming in writing as we didn't get into that, but those are the schools I can remember off the top of my head that have offered so far." Jenkins has been to three campuses so far and talked about those experiences. "I went to Maryland to see a practice and enjoyed myself," Jenkins stated. "The staff was very nice and seemed like smart people and I really liked the facilities there. The campus is very close to me home and I have rooted for them for a while now, but I didn't grow up a fan or anything. I just cheer for the home teams." "I camped at Florida this summer and it was a really cool experience," Jenkins explained. "I met a lot of the players there and think Coach (Charlie) Strong is a great coach. The food and weather were both great there and they obviously have a very strong football program. I like that southern weather and the academics at Florida are good as well." "I also camped at Virginia for a day and it was very intense and fun. We really got at it down there." We asked Jenkins what he thought his strong suits were on the gridiron. "Coaches tell me that I am very coachable, so that's good," Jenkins said. "I work really hard and try to stay very humble too. I think my work ethic has really helped me, especially with my speed and range as I play very well from sideline to sideline." Jenkins registered 60 tackles, four sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and recovered two fumbles as a junior on defense. He also rushed for 791 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior. He earned first-team Washington-Post All-Met honors. He also carries a perfect 4.0 GPA in the classroom.
