Philadelphia, Pa., native Chris Johnson had offers from two Division I-A programs, but chose to stay home recently and be the signal caller for the Villanova Wildcats for the next four seasons. It was believed that Johnson would commit to Buffalo on his official visit this weekend, but after some developments this week he chose to go another route.

Roman Catholic High School quarterback Chris Johnson had offers from Boston College and Buffalo, but when the 6-foot-1, 200-pound quarterback took an official visit to Villanova this past weekend he found that it was definitely the place for him. Villanova picks up another talented prospect from the Philadelphia Catholic League with this signing, continuing a trend they started years ago.

“I committed to Villanova last night,” Johnson said. “I took an official there last weekend and really liked the campus because everything was very close together. Villanova offers a great education, nice facilities and play in one of the strongest I-AA conferences there are.”

“I also really liked Head Coach Andy Talley,” Johnson added. “He came to my house last week and sat with me and seems very sincere. He said I will compete with Chris Whitney next year for the starting quarterback position which I’m excited about. He’s a nice person and I know he’s not going anywhere for a long time. I also just got along with all the players well.”

As a senior, Johnson completed 70 of his 162 passes for 1380 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also rushed for 137 yards and intercepted three passes from his safety position.
