Four-star QB Sean Renfree committed to Duke this evening and his father gives Scout.com the details:
"Sean just committed to Coach Cutcliffe at Duke. It was a tough decision because of his high regard for Coach Erickson and Coach Olsen, who were total class when it comes to recruiting kids. He has no question that they will win the PAC 10 in the near future, but ultimately, he felt that the overall fit for him was better at Duke. Coach Cutcliffe and his OC, Coach Roper, also run a very favorable system for Sean, have a proven track record of developing QB's (Peyton and Eli Manning, Eric Ainge, etc) and have great vision for Duke." Kevin Renfree
Moments after this was published, Renfree called Scout.com to give an exclusive interview.
Renfree says, "It was a tough decision but I feel it was the best opportunity for me. I really bought into what Coach Cutcliffe is preaching. He wants to be competitve in the ACC and wants to play fast smart football. He also has a great reputation for developing quarterbacks."
Renfree says that Arizona State was the runner up with Boise State close behind. "Both of those programs have great head coaches," Renfree comments, "When I called them to let them know that I committed to Duke they both wished me the best of luck. I have a lot of respect for them both."
Internet rumors were circling that Sean had known where he wanted to go but was not planning on committing until signing day. This proved to be untrue as Renfree says he did not decide until this afternoon. "I came home after school today and sat down with my family to make sure I was 100% sure and comfortable and then I called and committed."
