Newsome Makes it a Lucky Seven

Chesapeake, Va., product Kevin Newsome has hosted plenty of visitors over the past several weeks at his school and now holds seven scholarship offers to show for it. We talked to Newsome about the latest two programs to visit him at Western Branch High School on Wednesday night and found that he has great respect for both schools.

Kevin Newsome now holds scholarship offers from Penn State, Northwestern, Connecticut, Stanford, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and North Carolina and the 6-foot-3, 215-pound signal caller is receiving interest from plenty of other programs as well, including the Georgia Bulldogs who visited him on Wednesday at his school.

“First of all, Stanford came into school on Friday and offered me,” Newsome said. “Coach Shaw came out and was a very nice man. It’s a great honor to get an offer from Stanford because they are such a prestigious school with a great football tradition. I’m just very excited to have them as an option.”

“Both Georgia and West Virginia came in today to see me,” Newsome explained. “As for Georgia, what can I say? It’s the SEC man. They’re a running team, but they’re a winning team and I like winning. They really smacked Hawaii in their bowl game and I didn’t know they were like that. Colt Brennan was getting crushed in that game.”

“West Virginia is just a beast of a program,” Newsome added. “It was a real honor to get offered by them and I’m excited about the prospect of being recruited by them.”

Northwestern and Connecticut also recently offered Newsome, giving him seven total offers to date. His offer from Penn State is verbal right now, but he will be receiving the written offer on signing day.
