The following information was received this morning in an e-mail from Coach Wayne Wilkes.
Cory Wilkes announced this morning that he is commiting to play football at Troy this coming fall. He visited Troy this past weekend and informed Coach Blakeney yesterday that he will accept the scholarship and be a Trojan this fall.
Cory logged right at 14,000 miles of visits since last spring, visiting Eastern and Western Michigan, Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Kent State, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Troy, and UAB to name a few, along with countless DIAA and II schools before making his decision.
Cory finished his high school career #5 all time in AHSAA history with 8,062 total yards, 37 behind Tyrone Prothro. He became only the third QB in history to throw for 5,000 yards and rush for 2,000 yards in a career. He also finished 17th in career TD passes (53) in the state. He was a 65% career passer on over 500 attempts.
His senior year was highlighted by 2200 yards passing (Walker High School Record) and 20 TD passes (school record) along with 402 yards rushing and another 4 TD's despite sitting out over 11 quarters due to large leads.
He played most of the season with a broken throwing hand, after breaking a bone in the right hand during the second series of the second ball game of the year against region foe Cullman.
Cory earned All County, Metro, and Region honors, was a 3 time all county player, 3 time all region player, 2 time all metro player, and a 2 time MVP.
