The Scout.com team rankings, which is based upon a mathematical formula combining the depth and overall talent of each class including the top 25 commitments updates every morning at 6:00 AM Eastern time.
When the numbers get crunched tomorrow morning, there will be a new No. 1 as Alonzo Lawerence's commitment to Alabama will push the Tide to the top.
Lawrence, ranked the five cornerback prospect in the South, epitomizes that combination as he is not only ranked as a four star prospect, he is also the fifth defensive back committed to the Tide.
"The main position they needed to focus on this year was defensive line, and they got several standout defensive linemen," said Scout.com regional analyst Andrew Bone. "Guys like Courtney Upshaw, Michael Williams, and a couple three-star guys who are very good players. You have a guy like Kerry Murphy coming in from Hargrave."
With 28 commitments in the class, including two five-star prospects and three members of the Scout.com National 100, the Tide leads the country with fifteen four-star commitments including Lawrence. There are so many star athletes in this class, and not just with athletic quarterback commitment Star Jackson.
"The thing that stands out about the class is so many versatile, talented athletes," added Bone. "There are so many guys you could put on offense or plug them in on defense. It is just a terrific, athletic class."
Five days away from signing day, the team rankings point total for the Tide could still increase as Alabama and head coach Nick Saban are among the finalists for six more members of the Scout300.
Those prospects include wide receiver Julio from Foley, Ala., at one point the top prospect in the country and a five-star prospect, linebacker Jerrell Harris from Gadsden, Ala., defensive tackle Marcel Dareus from Birmingham, Ala., cornerback T.J. Bryant from Tallahassee, Fla., all of whom are members of the Scout.com National 100.

"Julio Jones is announcing signing day, and he is more than likely going to Alabama. Jerrell Harris is announcing on signing day, Marcel Dareus is announcing on signing day, and Mark Ingram who will announce on signing day, so there are a few guys who could really solidify that number one ranking."
With a slight 100 point lead just a few days before the fireworks of National Signing Day begin, it appears as though the Tide could be tough to beat as the rankings currently stand without the potential of adding any more commitments.
Notre Dame, Georgia, and Texas A&M, currently sitting in the numbers two, three, and four spots in the team rankings, are nearly finished with their classes and could have trouble catching Alabama. The teams to watch out for are the big Florida trio as Miami still has an important official visit weekend beginning today, Florida State has high hopes with several Scout100 members, and Florida needs to hit a homerun with all of its targets for a shot at the top.
But, for now, it looks as though the Tide is rolling to a Scout.com recruiting national championship.
