 Golden
|
|
Headliners: Robert Golden (CB), J'Marcus Webb (OT), Solomon Koehler (DT)
This may not carry the same weight as some of the earlier classes Mike Stoops
has brought in, but in landing the premier cornerback in the West in Golden, the
Wildcats were able to get their first five-star high school recruit under
Stoops. The Wildcats also hit the JC ranks hard, especially on the
offensive line, landing J'Marcus Webb, a one-time Texas signee and Army
All-American, and Cerritos College linemen Phillip Garcia and Mike Diaz.
They also picked up one of the most versatile quarterbacks in the country in
Matt Scott, who threw for over 2,000 yards and ran for over 1,000 for Corona
Centennial. Prep linemen Kyle Quinn, Vaughn Dotsy and Trace Biskin all
will add depth in the trenches. Solomon Koehler, a defensive tackle from
Hawaii, is the top player from the Islands.
Arizona is still waiting on: Matthew Hunt (OL).
The big fish that got away: Gerell Robinson (RB)
 Robinson

|
Headliners: Gerell Robinson (WR), Lawrence Guy (DT), Ryan Bass (RB)
In the first full recruiting class for Dennis Erickson, the Sun Devils filled
needs at just about every position. The biggest coup was landing one-time
Arizona commit Robinson, who chose the hometown Sun Devils on national
television over Notre Dame. Getting Guy, the top defensive tackle in the
West, was also a big get, beating out Oklahoma and Tennessee for him. Bass
was another commit to Arizona who switched over and joined teammates Shelly Lyons and Brandon Magee, both linebackers, in committing to the Sun Devils.
Kemonte Bateman was a commit to UCLA before he switched, and his prep teammate,
the versatile Clint Floyd, verballed to the Sun Devils the same weekend.
Other in-state lands for ASU included Zach Schlink and Pat Jamison.
Arizona State is still waiting on: Datone Jones (DE), Mark Ingram (RB)
The big fish that got away: Dion Jordan (TE)
 Ladner
|
|
Headliners: Spencer Ladner (TE), Tyler Rigsbee (OL), Marvin Jones (WR)
Rigsbee committed to Cal early in his junior year and despite being one of the
top tackles in the West, never wavered on his verbal. Ladner left the
Midwest to come to Cal and was an early verbal to the Bears. Jones is the
best pure receiver on the West Coast and the Bears landed him in an intense
recruiting battle with much of the Pac-10. Cal also got a boost from
Arizona for the second straight year, picking up L.A. Scout.com Combine MVP
Covaughn Deboskie, who chose them on national television. Trevor Guyton, a
stellar defensive tackle from Washington, spurned the hometown Huskies to commit
with Cal, and Marc Anthony did the same with Arizona State, choosing the Bears
over the Sun Devils.
Cal is still waiting on: Antwon Moutra (WR).
The big fish that got away: Jermaine Kearse (WR)
 Jordan

|
Headliners: Justin Thompson (DT), Dion Jordan (TE), Dewitt Stuckey (LB)
Oregon is still in the mix for Terrelle Pryor, the nation's top prospect, and
Pryor may wait past Signing Day to announce. And Oregon is more than
willing to wait, especially if it means Pryor will trip to Eugene and give them
a closer look. In the meantime, they'll celebrate the signings of one of
the elite JC tackles in Thompson, tight ends in Jordan and linebackers in
Stuckey. Each are amongst the best at their positions nationally. If
Pryor stays in Big Ten country, the Ducks still have Darron Thomas, a Texas
native, coming in the fall to play quarterback. Kansas athlete Chris Harper was once a K-State commit but he spurned the Wildcats for the green of
Autzen Stadium. John Boyett was the Northern California Player of the Year
and an early commit to the Ducks, never waffling in his decision.
Oregon is still waiting on: Terrelle Pryor (QB), Aaron Boyd (WR), Tommie
Streeter (WR), Datone Jones (DE), Hamani Stevens (OL)
The big fish that got away:
Jurrell Casey (DT)
 Kuli
|
|
Headliners: Simi Kuli (DT), Jacquizz Rogers (RB), Ryan Katz (QB)
Few coaches get the most out of their talent like the Beaver staff, led by head
man Mike Riley. Oregon State had an excellent class last year and this
year went for depth. The star is Kuli, a five-star tackle from JC
powerhouse El Camino. He picked the Beavers in the final week before
Signing Day, a huge boost to their class. Rogers is a stellar four-star
back from Texas who's heading to the Northwest and could be in the mix in the
Beavers backfield. One of the more underrated quarterbacks in the West is
Katz, and he'll join former teammate Cameron Collins, a signee a year ago.
Katz will graduate early and be practicing in the spring. Geno Munoz had
the best performance of any receiver at the L.A. Scout.com Combine and is a big
get for the Beavers.
Oregon State is still waiting on: Kevan Walker (WR), Benji Kemoeatu (OL)
The big fish that got away: Dominic Galas (C)
 Luck
|
|
Headliners: Andrew Luck (QB), Delano Howell (RB), Konrad Reuland (TE),
David DeCastro (C)
Even before the memorable 2007 season saw the Cardinal knock off USC and Cal,
Jim Harbaugh secured commitments from some of the top players they targeted,
none bigger than quarterback Andrew Luck. The Big Texan gave the Cardinal
class instant credibility and a national name to boot. Howell was
initially recruited as a cornerback, but after having as good a season as any
running back in the West, he'll likely start his career on The Farm in the
offensive backfield. Stanford also landed a pair of Reuland's in Warren
from Mission Viejo and older brother Konrad, a transfer from Notre Dame.
Konrad was a five-star tight end, ranked #2 in the class of 2006. David
DeCastro is the top center in the West and ranked third nationally and he turned
down the hometown Huskies to play for the Cardinal.
Stanford is still waiting on: John Cole (WR)
The big fish that got away: Austin Holt (TE)
 Moore
|
|
Headliners: Rahim Moore (S), Aundre Dean (RB), Kevin Craft (QB)
Considering the peril the Bruins' recruiting class appeared to be in when Karl Dorrell was fired, it's safe to say that Rick Neuheisel has done very well in
his first recruiting effort in Westwood. Keeping DeWayne Walker as his
defensive coordinator was the key to the vaunted DB class the Bruins are
bringing in, led by Moore and E.J. Woods at safety and corners Aaron Hester and
Anthony Dye. Damien Holmes and Patrick Larimore are other key defensive
verbals. Offensively, keeping Dean in the mix may be the most important
commitment that Neuheisel pulls in. A top 100 national player from outside
of California hasn't been common for the Bruins. Craft is one of the top
JC quarterbacks in the country and they also good a good one from the high school ranks in Nick Crissman.
UCLA is still waiting on: Milton Knox (RB), Hamani Stevens (OL), Datone
Jones (DE)
The big fish that got away: Uona Kaveinga (WLB)
 Kalil
|
|
Headliners: Tyron Smith (OT), Matt Kalil (OT), Blake Ayles (TE)
No one will sign a better offensive line class West of the Mississippi than the
Trojans, who landed two of the top three tackles in the country in Smith and
Kalil. For good measure, they also secured verbals from four-star linemen
Khaled Holmes and Matt Meyer as well as Texan Daniel Campbell. Ayles is
the best tight end to come out of the West in the past five years and will be
heavily in the mix to replace Mackey Award Winner Fred Davis. Brice Butler
shocked Florida State, his father's alma mater, and committed to the Trojans.
In state, the Trojans excelled, especially on the defensive line, pulling in
Armond Armstead and Jurrell Casey inside and Wes Horton and Malik Jackson on the
outside. Maurice Simmons will follow in his older brother, Champ's
footsteps, playing linebacker for the Trojans.
USC is still waiting on: T.J. Bryant (WR), Nick Perry (DE), Uona Kaveinga
(LB), Jerrell Harris (WLB)
The big fish that got away: Chris Polk (RB)
 Middleton
|
|
Headliners: Kavario Middleton (TE), Alameda Ta'amu (OL), Chris Polk (RB),
Everette Thompson (DE)
Washington did an excellent job in-state, landing five of the top seven
prospects from the Evergreen State, headlined by Middleton, a versatile TE/DE
who will most likely line up on offense as a big target for Jake Locker.
He'll be joined by teammate Jermaine Kearse, who will play receiver for the
Huskies. Other in-state commits include Thompson, who will play defensive
end, Ta'amu, who will line up on offense and Senio Kelemete, who could play on
either side of the ball. Polk was a longtime commit to USC who stunned
many folks by committing to the Huskies, then graduating early to enroll in
January and avoid any last minute efforts by the Trojans. Craig Noble is
the top defensive tackle in California and is a huge get for Tyrone Willingham's
best class.
Washington is still waiting on: Demetrius Guice (TE)
The Big Fish that got away: David DeCastro (C)
 Frank
|
|
Headliners: Bernard Wolfgramm (DE), Kevin Frank (CB)
With the question of Bill Doba's job security permeating in Pullman all season,
the Cougars got into the recruiting game late, not landing their first
commitment until early November, when Jared Karstetter picked the Cougs.
But from the time Paul Wulff took over at his alma mater, they hit the ground
running, landing 20 commitments in less than two months. The big land was
getting Wolfgramm, a JC product from San Mateo and Frank, a commit to Boise State, to come on board. Wulff also reeled in Cory Mackay, a commit to
Washington at one point. Washington State hit the JC's hard, also getting
commitments from Myron Beck from Arizona and Zack Williams, Josh Luapo, Chantz
Staden and Jesse Sanchez from the California JC ranks.
Washington State is still waiting on: Thaddeus Brown (CB), Jonathan Solomon (OL)
The big fish that got away: Daron Mackey (LB)
