Lewis Goes With His Heart
Earlier this week we caught up with East Stroudsburg South High School offensive tackle Corey Lewis to talk about where he would commit on Letter of Intent day and found that the 6-foot-7, 292-pound left tackle prospect had a change of heart and would be attended Illinois for the next four years. Lewis walked us through his decision making process and talked about what he saw in Champaign. "I didn't get the feeling on my official visit to Virginia that it was where I wanted to be for four or five years, so I opened things back up," Lewis explained. "I looked at Penn State and Illinois very hard and while every school has a beautiful campus and great night life, that isn't why I am going to school. I just felt like Illinois was the school for me, so I went with my heart." "Hubie Graham and Tyler Sands helped me a lot in my decision," Lewis said. "As a matter of fact, they were up here hanging out with me on Friday night (February 1st) and we had a ton of fun together. I didn't visit Illinois officially, but I did camp there and my parents and I both felt that the connection we had with the Illinois coaching staff was the best one." "I would just like to thank the coaches at Virginia and Penn State for recruiting me and taking the time," Lewis stated. "I felt bad going back on my commitment to Virginia, but I can't do anything about that. It was also an honor to meet Joe Paterno and just appreciated what both schools did for me." Lewis gives the Illini a nice left tackle prospect across from Graham Pocic, another commitment from this years' class.
