Jerrell Harris, four-star linebacker from Gadsden, (Ala.), City, announced his college decision Wednesday and signed his letter of intent with the University of Alabama. The rich get richer as the Crimson Tide snagged one of the best prospects in the country.

Harris is extremely athletic and very versatile. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound moves like a gazelle in the open field, but attacks the point of impact like a lion. He is a fierce competitor and is the type of player who will thrive in Alabama’s defense.

Alabama has put together one of the best linebacker classes in the country. Harris, Mark Barron, Damian Square and Devonta Bolton are all listed as outside linebackers. Barron could possibly play safety, Square will play on the defensive line and Bolton is uncertain of his future position. Courtney Upshaw and Dont'a Hightower are both listed at defensive ends, but expect to begin their career at Alabama at the linebacker position.

The four-star signee played all over the field for the Titans including defensive end, linebacker, defensive back and special teams. Harris was always the first man down the field on kick-off coverage and should see immediate playing time in Tuscaloosa.

The Gadsden native is the first big recruit from Etowah County since Etowah running back Carnell Williams (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Westbrook Christian quarterback Brodie Croyle (Kansas City Chiefs). Harris does not have a history of injuries unlike the aforementioned. He is a very durable and well conditioned prospect. He should adapt easily to college conditioning.

Harris had 145 tackles during his senior season (97 solo), 16 tackles for loss, three pass break-ups, 20 quarterback pressures, four caused fumbles, three recovered fumbles. Harris also returned one fumble for a touchdown and scored on an interception return.

He was named ASWA first team All-State and Super 12, Under-Armour All-Star game participant in Orlando, finalist for Alabama's Mr. Football, Orlando Sentinel All-Southern Team Alabama Linebacker and Parade Magazine All-American Team 2007.
