Darrell Givens is certainly one of the top cornerback prospects in the state of Maryland and by the looks of his early recruiting picture, he could end up being one of the most heavily recruited cornerbacks in the entire country. The Indian Head, Md., native is already up to 10 written scholarship offers and should have more on the way shortly. | |||

Ohio State, Boston College, Virginia, Akron, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Oregon, Tennessee, North Carolina and Rutgers have all already offered 6-foot-1, 180-pound Lackey High School cornerback Darrell Givens scholarship offers. From speaking with him it sounds like more could be on their way as well. “I have been talking to Coach Aubrey Hill at Miami who offered me when he was at Pittsburgh and he says that I should have an offer from them once he gets my film down there to show to the coaching staff,” Givens explained. “My uncle Nekos Brown plays defensive end for Virginia Tech and they seem close too. Coach (Todd) McNair from USC told me I have a verbal offer and that they just want to see me in person at camp this summer and Penn State and Clemson are also on me hard too right now. I’ll also be traveling to Virginia on February 24th for their junior day.” Givens spent some time breaking down three of his current offers. “Ohio State being my first offer was a big surprise to me because they’re such a big program and you expect to have to work your way up to the top,” Givens said. “I was really excited when they offered and am very good friends with Lamaar Thomas because I originally went to Friendly High School as a freshman and a sophomore. I camped there this summer and the facilities were great.” “Coach (Darrell) Hazell is a really cool, down to earth kind of guy and has visited me at school a lot recently,” Givens added. “He brought down Head Coach Jim Tressell with him who told me that he expected that I could impact the team immediately as a role player my freshman year. As a sophomore I would be expected to slide into a starting role there. Their recent success has really caught my eye because I want to be a part of a winning program.” “After visiting Rutgers I am really, really high on them,” Givens stated. “When I visited there I didn’t expect much, but I really fell in love with the campus, coaches and players on my visit. I also know for a fact that I would start as a freshman there, so that would be great if I chose them.” “Coach Jags and Coach (Ryan) Day at Boston College are really cool guys to be around and I really like their campus. I got to hang out with Josh Haden and a lot of the rest of the players while I was there and was really impressed with not only their academics, but by their graduation rates as they’re always amongst the top programs in the country.” Givens camped at Pittsburgh, Ohio State and Wake Forest last summer. As a junior, Givens had 82 tackles, seven pass breakups, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He also returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns. He was named first-team All-County and All-State at cornerback. |
