Hampton, Va., product Tajh Boyd grew up watching some of the best players in Virginia go through the recruiting process while he dreamed of one day being just like them. With eight scholarship offers in hand already, the signal caller in now in the thick of what he dreamed of and he is taking absolutely nothing for granted.

Tajh Boyd performed brilliantly as a junior for Phoebus High School, completing 131 of 189 passes for 2059 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. The 6-foot, 190-pound quarterback also rushed for 500 yards and seven touchdowns, showing his versatility. Since then he has picked up eight early scholarship offers and is looking to prove he has one of the best arms in the country.

“Right now I have scholarship offers from Boston College, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Tennessee, Maryland and Michigan,” Boyd said. “I also hear a lot from schools like Florida, Alabama, Oregon, Notre Dame, Duke, Rutgers, Nebraska, Colorado and a lot of others I can’t name off the top of my head.”

“I would say right now West Virginia, Tennessee and Boston College are my top three schools, but it’s early in the process,” Boyd added. “I’m waiting on an offer from Oregon as well because I like them a lot and talk to them regularly. I think they just want to see me up close before offering.”

Boyd went on to speak about the top three he mentioned a bit in detail and also filled us in on his junior day visit to Wake Forest this weekend.

Wake Forest - “I went down there this weekend and had a lot of fun hanging out with the other recruits. The campus is really nice and the coaching staff is really cool. I got to talk with Head Coach Jim Grobe for a second while I was there and they seemed very excited to have me there.”

West Virginia - “I talk to Coach (Jeff) Mullen a lot who is the new offensive coordinator up there and he’s a very cool, down to earth guy. I think I’d have a good chance at playing early at WVU and also know I’d fit into their offensive style well.”

Tennessee - “I like the coaches there because they just seem like good people. They have come to my school a few times and I’ve spoken to Head Coach (Phil) Fulmer on the phone who was a cool dude. I like that they play in the SEC because that’s the highest level right there.”

Boston College - “I went up for a visit there right after they offered me and Coach Steve Logan is like a guru with quarterbacks. I know he could get me ready for the pros like he has with others and also know that Coach Jags has the connections in the NFL as well, so I like that about them.”

Boyd was named District Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and second-team All-State at quarterback last season.
