There were some good quarterbacks in attendance when Scout.com held its first combine of the season in Mobile back in January and one of them was Baton Rouge (La.) University High product Barrett Bailey.

University High does not throw the ball much but when the coaches did Bailey was successful as he completed over 60 percent of his tosses for over 1,000 yards.

Bailey (6-3, 185, 4.6) threw the ball well when we saw him up close in Mobile but what we couldn’t get a good bead on was his ability to make things happen with his feet which he did quite often during his junior campaign.

The talented signal caller has a lot of qualities coaches are looking for in a field general and he should get the chance to take his game to the next level.

“I feel like I have the athletic ability to be able to compete at the next level and the size too,” he said. “I feel like I understand the game and can take what the coaches tell me and put it to work pretty quickly.”

Bailey is hearing from a few schools in the early going of the recruiting process like LSU, Duke, Stanford, and Arkansas to name a few.

It’s early for kids to start rattling off a Top 5 but Bailey does have some things he likes about the four schools mentioned above.

LSU—“LSU has always been a dream because I’ve grown up watching them. I went to a few of their football games this past year with the recruits and I just like the program they have over there.”

Duke—“It’s always been a strong academic school and my mom has always wanted me to go to a school like that. Now that they have coach (David) Cutcliffe over there that helps because he is known for being a quarterbacks coach.”

Stanford—“It’s really far away but that doesn’t really concern me that much. If they show some strong interest then I’ll definitely try to learn more about the school and the football program.”

Arkansas—“Coach (Bobby) Petrino has always been known as a big offensive kind of guy and from watching him coach at Louisville with something like 50 points a game has always been kind of interesting.”

Note: Bailey is scheduled to attend LSU’s Junior Day on Feb. 23rd and says he will make as many others as he can.
