Andrew Shoop to Michael Smith was a quarterback/wide receiver combination last season that aggravated defensive coordinators that had to plan against Danville High School’s offense all of last season. Smith was one of the most productive receivers in the entire state and while his recruiting has yet to take off, some schools have already been in touch with him.
Danville, Pa., native
Michael Smith
lit opposing defenses up last season, hauling in 800 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns on the season. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound wide receiver will be attending a 7-on-7 tournament in Akron with New Level Athletics soon and has been hearing from a small group of schools in recruiting.
“Right now I’m just getting mail from
Connecticut
and
Syracuse
, but
Pittsburgh
and
Temple
have both been to my school to meet with me,” Smith explained. “I want to go up and visit both Connecticut and
Boston College
this summer for sure.”
“A coach from Pittsburgh came by the school this year, however I didn’t get to meet with him, so I’m not sure who it was,” Smith said. “I’m not sure I am going to be into their campus because I want a college atmosphere, but I’m definitely going to their junior day on March 1st to check things out. They are getting better and better every year and offer great academics, so I like that about them.”
“I talked to Head Coach Al Golden from Temple when he brought one of his assistant coaches to the school and really, really liked him,” Smith stated. “He said they really like my red zone skills and ability to go up and get jump balls. I will be taking a visit there this summer.”
Smith earned first-team All-District and All-State honors as a junior.
