Santa Monica (Calif.) quarterback Ryan Katz (6-1.5, 190), one of the top passers in the West in the class of 2008, signed with Oregon State earlier this month.
Thanks to early graduation, Katz is planning to head to Corvallis in March.
“I was talking about going up early after I graduated, and Coach (Mike) Riley said for me to come up for the spring. The first day of school is March 31st, so I’ll go up there like the 28th and enroll in school. I’m done with (high) school now, so I’m ready to go up there.”
Katz will also get plenty of time to throw during the spring, with Sean Canfield out for the spring and Ryan Gunderson graduating.
“I’m not looking to redshirt,” said Katz. “It will just be me and Lyle Moevao during the spring. That was a big reason why I’m going early. And I just feel like I’m ready to go. I might as well be working with the team.”
Katz said he’s excited to be heading to Corvallis and is really looking forward to being joined by the rest of his incoming freshman teammates.
“Some of the guys that were up at camp during the summer, like Colin Kelly and Geno Munoz, they’ll both be coming in. So we’re looking forward to that,” said Katz.
As a senior, Katz passed for 1,860 yards on 120-of-208 passing, 20 touchdowns and four interceptions last season and also ran for 477 yards en route to being named Ocean League MVP.
