San Pedro (Calif.) cornerback Ahmad Wood (5-11, 180) had to wait longer than he wanted to, but in the end, it all worked out for Wood, as he signed with Nevada earlier this month.
“I chose Nevada because I felt comfortable there,” said Wood. “The players and the coaches seemed cool. They were recruiting me the longest and they were the first school to offer. Head coach (Chris) Ault and Coach Wilson offered me.”
Wood could play either spot in the secondary, but the Pack coaching staff has one specific spot in mind.
“The coaching staff wants me to come in and be a shut down corner for them,” said Wood.
Wood is also hoping to get on the field early.
“If I go in and do what I’ve got to do, I believe I will play,” said Wood. “I know they’re looking for young talent to come in and play early.”
Wood raved about his visit to Reno.
“My visit there was great,” said Wood. “I really enjoyed the campus, especially their business building because I’m thinking about majoring in business. The football facilities were great. I also liked how we went into the press box to eat lunch and just got the whole view of the field. I loved how everything is near by. You don’t have to go out of your way to get to whatever you need.”
Wood is coming off a solid senior year in which he had 28 receptions for 485 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for a touchdown. Defensively, Wood had 64 tackles, five deflections and five interceptions.
