Jack McClinton is having an excellent junior season and has the Canes as a team on the rise. Miami ’s leading scorer had 22 pints in Miami ’s upset victory over Duke. He talked about the experience of upsetting the 4th ranked Blue Devils.

“It does not matter if you are a young player or an older player beating Duke is a great feeling,” said Jack McClinton. “If we stay humble we have other good things to come. We need to take care of Maryland now.”

Miami ’s win over Duke is a major step towards a Hurricane tournament bid, but McClinton and his teammates still have plenty of work to do. The Canes sit at 5-6 in ACC and will probably have to go 3-2 in their final five games to assure a tournament bid. McClinton talk about not getting too excited over Miami ’s last victory.

“The high was after the game in the locker room and hanging out with the guys,” said McClinton. “I just preached to the guys that we need to stay humble. We beat a great team, but we still have games left that we need to focus on.”

The Canes are on a 3 game winning streak in the ACC and are steadily climbing up the standings. Miami has salvaged their season in the last three games and McClinton talked about what changes have occurred to propel Miami on a three game winning streak.

“We looked at film and we saw there was some stuff to fix, rebounding and other little things,” said McClinton. “We corrected those things and it showed in the two road games and versus Duke. We just have to keep it going.”

Miami was also treated to a rare experience on Wednesday night versus Duke. The Canes played in front of a loud and packed Bank United Center . McClinton talked about the importance of having a rambunctious home crown.

“The fans help out a whole lot,” said McClinton. “It is like having that 6th man on the court. When we are on the road the fans are crazy and trying to get under our skin. Playing at home and having a crowd like that really helps. Probably the best game fan wise since I have been here.”

The Canes now turn their attention to Maryland . Miami beat the Terrapins in their two meetings last season and hope to continue their success on Saturday. McClinton talked about the challenges that Maryland presents.

“Maryland is a great team,” said McClinton. “They have a great coach in Gary Williams. They have good big men and a great guard. They beat North Carolina this year. We just have to go out there with complete focus and get the job done.”

Maryland is one of the top teams in the ACC and are led by their sophomore point guard Greivis Vasquez. He is the conference’s fourth leading scorer and is supported by two talented big mean in James Gist and Bambale Osby. McClinton talked about facing another ACC challenge.

“Every team in this league is a great team,” said McClinton. “I think your preparation before each game has a lot to do with the result. We are very prepared for Maryland and if we stay focused and humble we will be fine.”

If Miami hopes to put the finishing touches on their NCAA resume junior shooting guard Jack McClinton will have to lead the way like he has all year.
