Stanley Picks Up Offer, Takes Visit

Gaithersburg, Md., native Sean Stanley took a weekend visit to the University of Pittsburgh this weekend and solidified his scholarship offer while on campus after talking extensively with the coaching staff. It seems as though the defensive lineman is high priority for the Panthers after speaking to him about his visit.

Sean Stanley picked up another written offer from Duke on Monday to add to the seven he already had from Maryland, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound defensive end was told this weekend he is a priority recruit for the Panthers and generally had good things to say about his visit.

“My visit to Pittsburgh went pretty well,” Stanley stated. “I saw everything that I wanted to see and got to go to the basketball game and have some fun there, so that was pretty cool. I hung out with a few recruits that I knew from Maryland like Leron Eaddy, Dominic Clarke and Leon Kinnard and thought the coaches were all good guys. I actually sat with Head Coach (Dave) Wannstedt and their new defensive coordinator (Phil Bennett) who told me I was their top priority on the defensive line. It was a little bit colder there then I’m used to, but I could get used to it. The facilities were good there and the campus was alright.”

Stanley spoke about some other schools that are showing interest as well.

“I spoke to the defensive line coach from Duke who has some NFL experience and know they just got a new head coach (David Cutcliffe) who was at Ole’ Miss and Tennessee,” Stanley explained. “I am probably going to camp there this summer if I can’t make it down for spring practices. I know they have great academics and I want to major in some sort of business, so they are sending me up some details on their school of business for me to review.”

“One of the schools that I have the most interest in right now is Illinois because they are a program on the rise and it seems like it would be fun to play there. I talked to Tavon Austin at the All-State Banquet and he told me people he talks to that go there say great things about it. They told me they are going to offer me after they finish reviewing my film and when they do I want to visit to see the campus and meet the coaching staff.”

As a junior Stanley tallied 37 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks and forced nine fumbles, earning first-team Washington-Post All-Met honors.
