Oceanside (Calif.) quarterback Jordan Wynn (6-2, 180) was a passer who stood out to us last spring at the Scout.com Combine in Los Angeles at the Home Depot Center, one of the better underclassmen that day.
That wouldn’t be the first time Wynn made his mark at the Home Depot Center, returning in December to lead the Pirates to the California D-II State Championship.
Now Wynn has an offer to go along with a state championship ring, getting it on Monday.
“Utah offered me today,” said Wynn. “It actually came out of the blue. We were out of school all last week for President’s Week and when I got back today, there was a letter from Utah offering me.”
Wynn’s teammate, all-state offensive lineman Sam Brenner, signed with the Utes this month, and when he heard the news, turned into a recruiter himself.
“Sam was pretty stoked for me. He said it’s a good school and to take a look at it,” said Wynn. “I actually went to the Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm in December and saw them.”
After receiving the letter, Wynn called Utah coach Kyle Whittingham.
“It was a really good conversation and he sounded really interested,” said Wynn. “I’m the first quarterback they offered. They pretty much run the spread out of the shotgun.”
Wynn said three other schools have been showing a good deal of interest in him.
“I’ve been hearing from Colorado a lot lately as well as Purdue and Northwestern,” said Wynn. “I took an unofficial visit to San Diego State too and met with Coach (Chuck) Long.”
For now, though, Wynn is relishing the offer he got from the Utes.
“I’m relieved,” said Wynn. “I was being patient but waiting for one to come.”
A strong student, Wynn is carrying a 3.83 and will take the SAT on May 1st.
During the Pirates title-winning season, which culminated in the CIF Division II State Championship and the CIF-San Diego Section title, Wynn was 166-for-283 for 2,589 yards and 21 touchdowns with eight picks. He earned All-State, All-San Diego County, All-CIF San Diego Section and All-Avocado League honors.
