Clarksville, Md., native Malek Redd and his teammates enjoyed a State Championship this season and are all being recruited by a number of Division I programs at this point. Redd is the most diminutive in stature on his team, however he has showed big play ability with the limited carries he has had, averaging nearly 11.5 yards per carry last season.

Malek Redd traveled to Pittsburgh this weekend for junior day along with his teammate Leron Eaddy and claims that the visit went really well. The 5-foot-6, 160-pound running back has a bit of an uphill battle in recruiting due to his size, however it hasn’t stopped him from gaining interest from a great number of schools so far in the recruiting process.

“My visit to Pittsburgh was really good,” Redd stated. “The atmosphere there was great and I liked the coaches and players a lot. You can see how well they treat everyone there just watching the two units interact and all of the coaches that I met treated me really well. I got to talk with Coach (Bryan) Bossard who is the new recruiting coordinator there for Maryland and he told us he would be coming down to meet with us in May and then would come back to see us play this year.”

“I also got to meet with their running backs coach and he said that he was looking for guys that could run, catch and block and I feel that I do all of those things well, so that was good,” Redd added. “After the individual meetings we all went to see the basketball team play and it was intense. The student section showed us a lot of love which was really nice and I just felt really comfortable there. Everything was very nice and the only thing that I didn’t like was the cold weather which isn’t a big deal at all.”

Redd is also being recruited right now by Alabama, North Carolina, Connecticut, Syracuse, Boston College, Washington, Purdue, UCLA and Stanford. He will be visiting two of them this upcoming weekend.

“I have been talking to the coaching staff at Syracuse and we’re going there this weekend for junior day. After that we’ll be making a stop by Connecticut as well, so I’m excited for those visits. Michael Campanaro and Leron Eaddy are coming with me to both places.”

As a junior at River Hill High School, Redd carried the ball 114 times for 1300 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also played cornerback where he made 57 tackles and intercepted seven passes.
