Mingo Talks Jr. Day

West Monroe (La.) product Barkevious Mingo took in his second junior day this past weekend and the home state school rolled out the red carpet for the talented linebacker.

"It was great," Mingo said of his time at LSU. "All of the coaches came up and spoke to me right off the bat and asked me how I was doing. It felt good knowing that they all knew who I was."

Mingo (6-4, 200, 4.5) said he spent quite a bit of time with LSU's co-defensive coordinators Doug Mallory and Bradley Dale Peveto and both let him know where he stood on the Tigers' board.

"Coach Mallory said he really wanted me and that I'm one of the two in-state linebackers they singled out early," said Mingo. "That made me realize how good I can really be for them to say that."

The LSU staff made its best attempt to get a commitment from the standout linebacker and although he had thoughts of pulling the trigger he stuck to his guns.

"I had a game plan going down there and it was that I wanted to talk to my coaches, my principals, and my mom before I did anything so I wasn't going to commit then," he said. "It was real tempting though."

Alabama was the other junior day event that Mingo attended and at this point the Crimson Tide seem to pose the biggest threat to the Tigers.

"I liked it at Alabama when I went there and they seem to be putting together a good team for the future," said Mingo, who claims an offer from Bama, Louisiana Tech and ULM as well. "I'm interested in them and really all of the schools that have offered me. I'm just taking my time and trying to ask a lot of questions right now."

Note: As a junior, Mingo was an LSWA Class 5A All-State selection after he recorded 55 tackles including six for a loss and six sacks during the regular season. That was his first year of playing high school football.
