Now they have their eyes focused on another
local product.
"I got an offer from Ole Miss on Monday," added
Montez Phillips. "I went and talked to the coaches on Monday, all of them.
I met Coach Nutt, the Nix brothers, and Coach (Kent) Austin, their new offensive
coordinator. They all seemed pretty cool."
Which position is Ole Miss
looking at Phillips to play?
"They like me at WR and QB."
Which
position does Montez prefer to play?
"I like quarterback because
you always have the ball in your hands."
What did the Ole Miss staff
have to say?
"They just told me that they really wanted me to play
for them, and I had a scholarship with my name on it."
Phillips was
previously offered by Mississippi State?
"They have a great atmosphere.
I went down there for Jr Day, and they took us to their basketball game. They
have a great basketball team too. That was really cool. I got a better vibe their
than I did from Ole Miss. Their coaches seemed a little more into it than Ole
Miss', but it is still down the middle."
Montez previously reported
with the network that he was getting close to a commitment with MSU. Where does
he now stand?
"I am not going to make a decision right now. I was
thinking about committing early but not anymore. Like I said, it is pretty much
down the middle with State and Ole Miss. I am going to wait it out and play my
senior year first and see who all offers me."
Who are some of the
other schools that are actively recruiting the 6' 3", 190 pound athlete?
"Nebraska,
Stanford, Alabama, LSU, USM, and Arkansas. Nebraska's coach gave my offensive
coach his cell phone number for me to call him. He wants me to come up to their
camp."
Montez started at receiver and cornerback as a sophomore and
collected 5 interceptions and 7 catches for 119 yards. His junior season, he moved
over to quarterback and rushed for 858 yards and passed for 958 and 16 total TD's."
"I
think my athleticism is my biggest strength. My speed allows me to make plays
with my legs, and I have the ability to run and throw. I am pretty versatile."
