The town of Clarksdale has a rich tradition of producing big time D1 talent, but it usually comes from Clarksdale High, not Lee Aca.
"Yea, recruiters always think I go to Clarksdale until I tell them Lee Aca," added a chuckling
Anthony Steen
. "Then I tell them, no, Lee Aca, and they are like who? (laugh). That's alright. I am trying to help make a name for our school."
The two way lineman stands at 6' 4", 290 pounds and ran a 5.3 forty at the Army All-American combine.
"I could go either way (OL or DL), but most of them are looking at me for guard. I have played guard pretty much my whole life, except last year I played center when our center got hurt. But I have also played DE, DT and long snapper my whole life too. I kick off too."
What would Steen consider to be his strengths?
"I am stronger than most of the people I got up against."
Strength is no problem for Anthony as he reports a 415 pound bench and a 550 squat.
"But I am still trying to get stronger right now. You can never be too strong."
Which colleges are recruiting Anthony the hardest right now?
"I got a full offer from Southern Mississippi a couple of weeks back. The coaches knew me from Ole Miss. I have been going over to the Ole Miss camps for a few years now, and they liked me from there. Alabama wants me to come to their Jr Day, and I am getting a lot of letters from Wake Forest. I am going to USM's Jr Day this weekend and Alabama next."
Did Steen grow up a fan of any particular school?
"Yea, Ole Miss. I have been going to their games ever since I was a little kid. But I do not know what is going on now. I have not heard from them since they changed staffs. It was looking good for me to get a scholarship with their last staff, but I do not know now."
What about MSU?
"I have not heard from them since the season was over either. I was getting some letters during the season but they quit writing me."
Which colleges have caught Anthony's eye so far?
"So far? LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, USM, Ole Miss, MSU, and oh yea, Miami called. I talked to one of their assistants the other day. They would like for me to come play for them. He said he saw some of my film from your network (Scout.com) and said he was really impressed. They want me to come down to one of their camps."
Anthony reports a 2.0 GPA.
