Coach Nutt lands 1st '09 commitment
Posted Mar 2, 2008
West Helena Central brought over five prospects to Ole Miss' Jr Day on Saturday and one of them left as a Rebel
"I always wanted to play for Coach Nutt," added the excited
. "Me and Coach Nutt have been friends since I got in high school. He was the first coach to start recruiting me. I like how he runs the football and the things he does. This is a dream come true for me, getting the opportunity to play for Coach Nutt"
This was the 6' 2", 215 pounders first visit to the Ole Miss campus. What new did he learn?
"I just learned that they have great coaches, and I loved the overall campus environment. I felt real comfortable with the coaches. But really, I just loved the atmosphere around there. That is why I choose Ole Miss."
Who else was in the picture before Turell decided on Ole Miss?
"Arkansas was on me real hard. Memphis, Vandy, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Tennessee. There were a bunch of schools, but those are the ones that invited me to their Jr Day and wanted me to come to their camp. But I always knew in the back of my mind that I wanted to run the ball for Coach Nutt. I have been wanting to play for Coach Nutt since I was in like 9th grade."
The All-Conference performer rushed for over 1, 500 yards and scored 22 TD's as a junior. Central's head coach believes the Rebels have themselves a keeper.
"He is as good of a back as I have coached or coached against," added Coach Buck. "He has such good hands for someone his size. I think he had around 28 catches for us alone last year. He is a north and south guy. Turrell likes to run between the tackles. He prefers to run over you but he has the speed to get to the corner if he needs to. But the biggest thing about Turrell is that he is a playmaker. He was a huge reason why Central went further in the playoffs since '93."
Coach Buck also believes that it was coach Nutt's relationship with Turrell that won him over.
"He wanted to play for Nutt when he was at Arkansas, so it was a no brainer because you know Coach Nutt loves to run the ball. He is pretty much a running back's dream to play for."
The Central head coach also believes the Rebels have got themselves a keeper on and off the field.
"Turrell is just such a well rounded kid. He is a 3.0 student who has made the Honor Roll every year since I have been here. The teachers love him, our players love him, and he listens so well. He is a coach's dream to have."
Williams will be back in Oxford this summer for Coach Nutt's first football camp as the Rebel's head coach.
Stay tuned as we will have game clips of Turrell coming in the near future.
