Escondido (Calif.) Valley Center receiver James Johnson had a memorable junior season, helping lead Valley Center to the CIF-San Diego Section title.

Johnson caught 69 passes for 1,458 yards and 19 touchdowns and had a 99-yard kickoff return. Eight times he went over 100 yards and scored a touchdown in nine games. His best game was a six-catch, 187-yard and four touchdown performance in the CIF quarterfinals.

Utah, San Diego State and Colorado State have all offered the all-state underclass pick.
