Kersey Waits for More Offers

Woodbury, N.J., native Shawney Kersey started his recruiting out with one offer from home-state Rutgers, but since then things have been somewhat quiet on that front. We spoke with him recently about which schools are showing him the most serious interest and found that he has some family ties to one of those programs.

Rutgers offered Shawney Kersey quite some time ago, however the 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver has been waiting on his second offer ever since. Quite a few schools have been through the hallways of Woodbury High School to grab film on the young playmaker and he recently sent film out to a group of them.

“I just sent film out to USC, Penn State, Connecticut, North Carolina State and some other schools who have been calling me,” Kersey said. “I guess the schools that are recruiting me most heavily right now would be Penn State, Rutgers and Maryland. Syracuse is another that has been pretty consistent and I’ll be visiting them soon.”

“I’m going down to Maryland this weekend for junior day,” Kersey explained. “Coach John Donovan is my recruiter and he is a pretty cool guy. I have two cousins that play for Maryland in Antwine Perez and Jeff Clement and they have both said good things about it there. I just want to go down and see things for myself.”

“A coach from Penn State came in and invited me to their spring game and junior day as well recently, but I can’t remember his name,” Kersey stated. “They have a good tradition and I have heard they have a nice campus too, so I am definitely going to try and make that trip.”

Kersey carries an 80-percent GPA in the classroom.
