Huskers Offer West Scranton Duo

West Scranton High School has been pumping out some solid talent over the past two seasons with Penn State bound quarterback Matt McGloin and Illinois bound tight end Hubie Graham. This season the big name so far has been Eric Shrive, the No. 3 offensive tackle in the country, however linebacker Shawn Bodtmann is also a serious prospect who just picked up his first offer.

Shawn Bodtmann is being recruited at both fullback and linebacker and today the 6-foot-205-pound athlete from Scranton, Pa., picked up his first scholarship offer when the Nebraska Cornhuskers came calling for him at the linebacker position. Being from Pennsylvania you wouldn't think Bodtmann would know much about the Nebraska program, but we learned that couldn't be further from the truth.

"Nebraska offered me to play linebacker for them today," Bodtmann said. "My coach told me that they had been asking about me and I was just happy to be getting the interest, but then I called and spoke to the staff and they said I had everything they were looking for in a linebacker. Last night I called back again and was told that I had a scholarship from them."

"When I got off the phone it finally hit me and I was dumbfounded to be honest with you," Bodtmann explained. "I am very, very excited about this offer, not because it's my first, but because it's from Nebraska. My father grew up a Husker fan, so I did as well and it doesn't get any bigger for me. They just brought in the defensive staff from LSU and have great tradition and pride in their program. I really can't find the words to explain what's going through my head right now."

Other schools have also been showing increased interest in the Scranton athlete.

"Pittsburgh reviewed my film at fullback and liked it, so the defensive staff is checking me out at linebacker now," Bodtmann stated. "I also spoke with Coach Johns at Northwestern last night and he is about to start reviewing my film too."

Nebraska didn't stop at Bodtmann with the offers as they also extended one to his teammate Eric Shrive, putting him at roughly 24 offers so far.
